St Laurence House – Queens wharf

2012

A new story on the top of the iconic Ports of Auckland Building may sound simple enough. In this case however a new analysis was required and changes to the Concrete Code NZS3101 since the building was built in the 1990s, meant that the structure did not meet current requirements. At a cost of $12m this was upgraded, any further costs would have been too much for the project. Savings in weight on the new floor were required so the new layout was targeted to be within the existing live load allowances.
