Millwater shopping centre

The Millwater shopping centre is a smart new shopping complex in the new suburb of Millwater, which is near Orewa. This was an opportunity to showcase concrete panels for external walls and retaining. This led to a solid structure with a central tower and a larger tower at each end of the building. Structural and fire design were done by Abacus Engineering Ltd. Panels were built and inspected at Nauhria Precast Ltd and trucked to the site. Incorporating lessons from the Christchurch Earthquake in the design of this building led to greater reinforcement complexity (rectangular cages in 150mm wide panels).
