Morrin Road Childcare Centre

Abacus Engineering acted as structural engineers for the developers who were converting this tired old warehouse on Morrin Road, St Johns into a colorful child care centre for children aged from 1 to 12, which commenced in 2016. 

The original building was gutted but the roof frames and purlins were retained. Abacus had to check these existing structural systems were adequate for the new colourful cladding. The existing heavily penetrated blockwalls were rebuilt and the roof structure were braced to transfer loads from the upper part of the walls to orthogonal masonry walls. These have been recladded and a marvellous new playground was built in the adjacent yard area. 

In 2026 the childcare centre operates as “Kid Country St. Johns Early Learning Centre” and has very positive reviews on Google.
